Mid Century Modern Coffee Table

This design started from a simple desire to replace an outdate piece of furniture and quickly became a journey into the world of wood working. To start a base design of a midcentury modern coffee table was chosen and a 3D model was generated. This model was then used to determine final size and finishes for the table. A 4' x 2' x 18" profile was selected to be made out of walnut with a purpleheart and ash accent stripe. Rough cut material was purchased to reduce costs as time was not a constraint on this project. The final product features a rotated stripe from initial concepts, a change made to ease construction and decrease the likelihood of splitting due to perpendicular wood grain directions. The fabrication of the design was completed over the course of one week and cost roughly $350 dollars in materials to create. A special thanks to Jesse Domer of the Watertown High School for allowing the use of their facilities during the fabrication process.

CAD Concept Model

This 3D model was generated using SolidWorks and used in selecting sizing and finishes

Raw Table Post Fabrication

Purpleheart woods color is a result of an oxidation reaction. Post fabrication the wood was a very soft purple in color due to the outer layers being removed. To restore the vibrant purples acetone was applied and the table was left in the sun to promote the reaction.

Finished Product

The final result of the project with a now vibrant purple accent running along the length.

1970 Datsun 240Z Restomod

This design is a passion project that was a long time in the making. The client had dreamed of restoring an S30 for over a decade and when the timing and their financial situation aligned, they turned to Timm Design Studio to handle the Job. A build base was sourced out of Madera, CA and consisted of a rust free 1970 body that was lacking a motor and transmission. This base fit our needs and helped reduce costs as the client wanted to upgrade from the original L24 motor to a stroked L28 motor mated to a 5 speed manual (not offered until 1976 260z).
